Enrico’s

Enrico’s Bakery has two locations, one in the Bronx and one in Hartsdale. Since we are the Westchester Breakfast Club (and not the Bronx Breakfast Club, which would probably cause all sorts of intellectual property issues with that other BBC), brunch this past week was brought in from the Hartsdale outpost. Enrico’s provides a mouthwatering display of fresh baked goods–the usual cookies, cakes, muffins, cupcakes, pastries. There is a side cooler with a large assortment of gelato flavors. Plus, Enrico’s provides all you need for a simple cold brunch–fresh made bagels, numerous types of cream cheese, and cold salads (cole slaw, chicken salad, egg salad). The pouring rain this particular Sunday morning meant the WBC needed a delicious meal, so Shelley carefully selected a delectable assortment of treats from Enrico’s to feed her hungry WBC compatriots.

In an attempt to start our new WBC tradition, this week we celebrated Shelley’s new digs by having brunch there. Food was brought in from Enrico’s, thoughtfully selected and transported by Shelley in the pouring rain.

The spread consisted of bagels and three types of cream cheese. Blocks of plain, veggie, and scallion cream cheese were available for us to smother our bagels in. There was also some cole slaw and chicken salad, and of course, a little box full of cookies.

I snagged the lone cinnamon raisin bagel and coated one side with the veggie cream cheese and the other side with the scallion cream cheese. I also had some cole slaw and chicken salad.

The bagel itself was okay. A little chewier than I’d like, but toasting was not required. The veggie cream cheese had grated carrots, scallions, and possibly another veggie in it (I can’t remember), and that was good. The scallion cream cheese was generously topped with chopped scallions. I liked the cream cheeses a lot. They were smooth and flavorful without being too thick and they were not as tangy as Philadelphia cream cheese can be.

The cole slaw was really good. I am not a fan of deli cole slaw generally. I usually find the texture off putting and watered down. This one was pretty good. The cabbage and carrots were cut into long strips and it was seasoned well without being too watered down. The chicken salad was good, no complaints.

The czar says: Residents near Enrico’s…you are so lucky.
