I’ve driven down this stretch of 9W for a long time. I remember when it was kind of just an abaondoned gas station. Then I think it turned into a farmstand of sorts, then at some point, out of the blue, it became an eatery. However I always just drove by, but one day, after noticing how many cyclists were stopped there, I noted it in the back of my mind.

I finally stopped in for breakfast as I made my way down to Jersey on a fine Wednesday morning. The property hosts two outposts. The 9W market and The Filling Station. I stopped in the 9W Market. The space is small. There are a couple of small cafe tables and one larger communal table available for indoor seating. However, outdoors there are plenty of outdoor seating.

Once you walk in, you are greeted by a wonderful display of freshly baked goods of the day. On one of the shelves by the warming tray filled with chocolate chip cookies, see if they have any Coconut Bread. If they do, get a slice. The coconut bread is dense, moist and filled with coconut flakes. It isn’t smack you in the face coconut flavor, but it’s there. That and a cup of coffee is what I love stopping in for.

But I was here to sample their breakfast offerings. The menu is short and basic, but customization permitted, as I found out by listening to some of the orders other patrons had put in. I went with something simple, 2 eggs and smoked mozzarella sandwich served on freshly baked ciabatta bread. No sooner than I finished paying and decided on a place to sit, my sandwich was delivered. It was delicious. The bread was soft and the eggs flavorful. It was a very filling sandwich and hit the spot after my long swim that morning.

The czar says: I am going to start biking 9W just so I can eat there. Get the coconut bread, totally worth the stop.
