Keenan House is a welcome new entry to the Ossining dining scene. Keenan offers American fare and an extensive beer selection, as well as–fortunately for the WBC–brunch. We popped in on a recent Sunday to check the place out, and liked what we saw. And ate.

It’s Sylvia’s birthday again (darnest thing, seems to happen every year). So we headed for an elegant brunch at Haymount House. Unfortunately, there were some glitches this day, including a hamburger ordered medium-rare came out charred beyond recognition and a maple butter served with the fried chicken and waffles that was more paste-like than anything. Happy birthday, Sylvia.

Sala-on-Hudson is a new Spanish restaurant in Croton. And at a recent visit, the WBC was pleasantly surprised by their brunch offerings. Finally, a different kind of brunch that lives up to our expectations!

Scarsdale is like Little France. Ok, so perhaps that’s an overstatement. But just as Scarsdale is home to twin Chase banks, so it is home to multiple French cafés. Our primary destination was Patisserie Salzburg. However, we also wound up sampling La Renaissance Patisserie Francaise. It was like a French café cage match in our stomachs. Which café did our guts proclaim the victor? Read on, mes amis.

It was Easter and it was time for brunch for the WBC. Our destination was Nessa in Port Chester. Sadly, we did not have any Easter bonnets. Maybe next year…

Vega

The WBC is usually wary of specialty-cuisine restaurants that offer brunch.  This is simply because our track record hasn’t been so good. We’ve found all too often that many places will throw a condiment from that particular cuisine on some eggs and call it brunch. But brunch it is not. We were disappointed the last time we tried a Mexican brunch. But we’re troopers, and breakfast must be had! So it was that we rambled into Vega on East Hartsdale Avenue for another Mexican brunch. Was it an egg fiesta? Or did we want to take a siesta? (We know, we know, that was cheesy…just read on.)

It’s been almost three years since the WBC dined at The Horseman in Sleepy Hollow. The restaurant recently re-opened after being closed for some time, so we decided it was time to give them another try.

Google Hangout Breakfast

09 Feb

:a_Top:

It was supposed to be a blizzard. An epic snowstorm. We’d surely be snowed in all weekend. (Turns out we weren’t, but we were prepared!) Snow or no snow, we’d still have to eat breakfast…enter Shelley’s brilliant idea to have a WBC Google Hangout Breakfast. Because what could be more fun than 6 people sitting around in their pajamas watching each other eat breakvast via video chat while overusing Google’s gong sound effect (guilty party: Shelley)? Right? Sylvia breaks it down for us.

Mint (return visit)

When the WBC first visited the then newly reopened Mint in February 2012, we were underwhelmed by our breakfast experience. In fact, we were disappointed. But, in the name of science! (ok, in the name of hungry tummies), we decided to give Mint another try, this time with far more pleasing results.  After all, this year they had an actual printed menu. Things were off to a good start indeed.
